Role

Architect of Record

The visual arts program of The Portsmouth Music and Arts Center(PMAC) outgrew its home and needed a new, larger space. Portsmouth’s historic South Meeting House stood empty, and needed a new tenant to support and revitalize the building. ARCove created a design strategy to rehabilitate this iconic building for use as a community Art School, while preserving important historic elements for generations to come. This rehabilitated building will provide comfortable spaces to teach, create, and display visual arts in various media. Both youth and adult students will find spaces filled with light and amenities to facilitate their learning and creations. Classrooms, a large community art gallery, and administrative spaces will be made accessible and energy efficient, while preserving the community heritage of this site.
