Renovations and additions with net zero energy strategies, revitalized a home in the city of Portsmouth. The existing structure was designed in the typical New Englander architectural style as late 19th century industrial workforce housing. The small and narrow footprint rendered the top attic virtually unusable. The building was in poor condition in need of many repairs with lost and modified features. Arcove restored the front street façade with a historically sympathetic front porch. We added a 2,000SF addition with a dormer, roof deck, solar panels, and high performance envelope. The rear addition was designed to be more contemporary and playful to engage with the rear garden. The family can enjoy the home through generations, as a small elevator makes it possible to age in place.
